Mollie’s Recipe for Wontons and Smoothies!

The Mollie Column: As I was browsing Pinterest the other day, I came across a smoothie that appeared to be delicious! It was packed with my favorite fruits- pineapple and banana!  The great thing about this smoothie is the simplicity behind making it.  The ingredients shouldn’t be hard to locate in your own refrigerator; plus, if you don’t like pineapple and banana you can always substitute! Here’s the recipe:

Hawaiian Smoothie

1c. orange juice

1 can (10oz.) crushed pineapple with juice

Pineapple for garnish (if you want to be fancy)

2 med. Bananas

1 8oz. carton plain/vanilla yogurt

1c. ice

Splash of grenadine syrup for color, if desired

 

I’m a southerner and most of us G.R.I.T.S. (girls raised in the south) learn from our grandmothers when it comes to cooking and we’re all taught to never measure anything! Lol.  Therefore, I tweaked the recipe a little to fit my needs.  The first time I made the Hawaiian smoothie I used two bananas, two scoops of vanilla  yogurt, two scoops of Chobani Vanilla Greek Yogurt (for more protein), half of a fresh pineapple sliced, two handfuls of ice, and one cup of orange juice.  It was absolutely delicious and my family loved it!! It was not gritty and had a really smooth taste, just perfect! Makes four servings or more.

 

WONTONS

The next recipe is a really delicious and healthy appetizer that could be a hit at your next summer party!  I made homemade wontons and baked them in the oven as opposed to frying them in oil.  The only thing I measured in this recipe was the cream cheese.  One bar of cream cheese is 8oz. and I used only four ounces for a batch of about 9 wontons.  Here are the ingredients:

Philadelphia Cream Cheese

Green Onions

Imitation Crab Meat

Garlic Salt

Cooking Spray

Wonton Wrappers (can be found at your local grocery store in the produce section)

 

I started by laying out a piece of aluminum foil and laying out the wonton wrappers.  In a bowl, I combined the 4 ounces of cream cheese, chopped green onions, chopped crabmeat, and garlic salt to taste.  I put a dollop of the mixture in each wonton wrapper and folded them up.  A small amount of the mixture goes a long way.  I placed all the finished wontons in a muffin pan and spritzed them with the cooking spray prior to placing them in the oven.  I left the wontons in the oven for approximately 15 minutes.  Viola!! Awesome baked wontons!
