It’s Vivian Wynter your Professional MUA and friend in Beauty! Choosing a nude nail polish color may seem easy, but it’s actually harder than you might think. More than any other shade, nudes are susceptible to that all-too-common scenario where it looks gorgeous in the bottle, but you walk out of the nail salon hating your manicure. That’s because nude nail polish needs to perfectly complement your skin tone in order to work.
You want a polish that’s close to your own skin tone but better. I recommend matching the polish to your foundation color — not your hands. #GETSCOOPED
I’ve rounded up some of my all -time favorite nude polishes and divided them into categories for fair, medium, medium-dark, and deep skin tones. They’re all super-shiny, saturated colors — perfect for when you want to take a break from that four-tone glitter ombré manicure that’s become your go-to.
Let’s dive in shall we?
1.) FAIR SKIN BEAUTIES:
If you have fair skin, anything too beige or too dark will make your hands look pale and sickly. Instead, opt for a clean, creamy color to counter any redness in your skin. Stick with colors that have a pink or purple undertone — they make your hands appear less ruddy!
Dolce and Gabanna “Petal” $20.00
Wet n Wild “2% Milk” $4.00
2:) MEDIUM SKIN BEAUTIES
If your skin tone is medium, look for colors with a warm base that seem to be similar to your own skin tone. You can pull off metallics, but you should avoid anything that’s too silvery because the coolness will clash with your natural warm undertones.
Deborah Lippmann “Modern Love” $16.00
Essie “Sugar Daddy” $8.50
(I L.O.V.E. this color, and it looks GREAT ON ALL SKIN TONES!) TRY IT OUT!!
MAC Cosmetics “Skin” $16.00 (This is one of those all-around, great polishes as well!)
3.) MEDIUM- DARK TO DARK BEAUTIES
Women with medium dark to deep skin tones should opt for coffee-colored nudes with golden or orange undertones. The deeper your skin, the darker the nude should be- ranging from deeper peach and latte-like hues to chocolaty-brown shades. Find options for your perfect nude by skin tone below!
Chanel “Inattendu” $26.00
OPI “San Ton-Tonio” $8.00
China Glaze “Caramel” $6.00
Spa Ritual “Back To Your Roots” $10.00 (This is the vegan sister line of Orly)
Revlon “Gray Suede” $4.00 (This is SUCH a staple for deep beauties!)
The 6 minute DIY Mani:
1.) Remove your polish before you get into the shower and slather Vitamin E, Coconut, Almond, Olive etc. oil on your hands and nails.
2.) Once you come out and your hands and nails are silky smooth. Cleanse off any excess oil with a quick swipe of acetone. (Only on the nail bed, not on the skin)
3.) Brush on your base coat, polish, and fast dry top coat with at least two minutes of drying time in between each
4.) Use a stiff flat edge (small) brush or angle brush (purchase a duplicate of your liner and brow brush for this reason.. (TRUST ME!) and dip in acetone to remove all imperfections around the base, top and side of the nail.
5.) Your nails should be dry about 3 minutes later!
Speaking of quick dry top coat that’s amazing… try this one! It’s consistently rated as the best with the most shine!!
